Goal

Clone the project from origin.

Up to now everything has happened in one repository. Real projects live on a server — GitHub, GitLab, your company's — that Git calls a remote. The standard name for the one you cloned from is origin.

git clone <url> copies the entire repository: every commit, every branch. You get a local main to work on, and a remote-tracking branch origin/main that records where main was on the server the last time you checked.
