01 Look around

1 / 15

Goal

Find the projects folder and move into it.

A terminal is a conversation with your computer, one line at a time. You're always standing in a folder — your working directory — and every command runs from there.

pwd (print working directory) says where you are. ls (list) shows what's in that folder. cd (change directory) moves you somewhere else.

The tree on the right is the same file system you're typing at. The marker shows where you're standing; watch it move.

Try it

Look around, then move into projects.

~ is shorthand for your home folder, /home/you. It's where every terminal starts.

Go to the terminal

Hint

ls lists what's here. cd projects moves into a folder.

Show a solution

pwd
ls
cd projects
